Mary O’Malley’s complex drawings
explore the raw intricacies of nature and natural processes. At
first glance they are delicate and dazzling abstractions of line and
shape. Upon closer inspection they become enchanting assemblages
where forests, flowers and cell structures emerge and converge.
O’Malley appropriates imagery from the Baroque to the botanical, and
everything in between including microscopic biotechnology and
textile lace patterns. Each drawing seems to capture the wildly
irrational, untamed beauty of its inspiration. |
